Future products of Canada Potash Corp.
Three types of potash products, standard, industrial and granular, will be considered in our future projects, depending on the mine location, ore grade and mining method.
CPC’s market: including the mature market of North America and growing markets in Asia and South America.
China: with a population of more than 1.4 billion, Chinese consumed more potash than any other country in the world. Driven by income growth in demand for meat, fruit and vegetables, China will have to reverse the trend of its fertilizer-in particular the insufficient application of potash-to meet its growing demand for crops.
India: India’s population of 1.2 billion and the improved economic environment urge the demand for more and better food. In view of 18% of the world population, India has only 11% of cultivated land area in the world. Its crop yield is only 20~25% of the same crop yield in United States. Therefore, India needs a more balanced fertilizer.
Rest of Asia (excluding China and India): the region produces about 85% of palm oil and 40% of rice in the world. Due to limited agricultural land in this region, growth in global demand for Palm oil and rice forces farmers using more potash to boost production.
Latin America: Latin America products 60% coffee, and about half of the soybeans and sugar of the world. Benefit from fertile land, abundant labor and water resources, Brazil has become an agricultural superpower in the world, and consumed 60% potash in the region. Because of the low potassium content in Brazil, future growth of the country’s agriculture will depend on potassium fertilizer.
North America: United States and Canada are the most efficient agricultural producers in the world, where the United States represents 40% of world trade in wheat, corn, soybeans and cotton. Utilizing best practices in filed management, North America is an important and stable potash consumption market.
